TECHNOLOGY business, Yojee Ltd, has announced a partnership with Sinotrans Integrated Logistics Australia to be its software partner

Dear valued customer,

SILA is continually looking to improve the efficiencies our customers supply chains. Recently we concluded a development partnership with logistics software specialist Yojee.  There will be a suite of enhanced benefits to our customers as we roll out each stage of the partnership.

Customers will see initial benefits with the electronic delivery of POD as cargo is delivered to the receivers, this will be available via, email, b2b as the POD is signed by the receiver. SILA will provide real time solutions for deliveries under management allowing customers to invoice quicker for their products.

There are many other enhancements that we will be developing and rolling out during 2017. Below is a copy of a recent report picked up by the DCN.

TECHNOLOGY business, Yojee Ltd, has announced a partnership with Sinotrans Integrated Logistics Australia to be its software partner.

SILA is part of the Sinotrans and CSC international network, a massive Chinese shipping and logistics business.

According to a Yojee statement, SILA has contracted Yojee for an initial two-year term as its logistics software partner to “maximise delivery visibility, optimise their dispatching capabilities and manage their third-party partners with the use of Yojee’s Control Tower”.

The Yojee platform is also said to provide instant connectivity and job management solutions for all SILA fleet partners within its internal and broader network.

LCL RIP-OFFS

Dear Customer,

Finally someone is listening!

SILA via its membership to FTA is a working hard to have this issue brought to the attention of the relevant authorities. We have been advocating action via FTA to champion this issue and are very pleased to see the below released to the market today. Australian C&F importers have been getting ripped off for many years. As your supplier you will recall the numerous amounts of time we have brought this to your attention.

We will support our customers efforts via a liaison desk should you want to explore actions you can take. The below article we believe is now the beginning and that a further look into the FCL local charges of Forwarders is also needed. There are many charges listed on invoices for services not performed, and charge items not incurred.

We look forward to discussing this with you and working with you to minimise logistics costs, especially where suppliers refuse to sell on a FOB or Ex Works basis for FCL or LCL cargo.

FTA: "KEEPING AUSTRALIA'S INTERNATIONAL TRADE MOVING"

WARNING: SURGE IN LCL RIP-OFFS

Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA) and the Australian Peak Shippers Association (APSA) continue to receive correspondence from forwarders and cargo owners with evidence of potentially false and misleading fees purportedly relating to local port charges on LCL freight.

These include:

•    Invoicing for an “infrastructure levy” for freight moving through Adelaide, where there is no infrastructure levy in place and where DPWA and Patricks do not have stevedoring operations
•    Charging an import processing fee where the local agent is not performing or are not contracted to perform the import clearance
•    Charging a currency adjustment factor where the freight is prepaid and therefore no CAF applies

Many of the examples presented to FTA/APSA originated where an overseas agent controls a freight prepaid consignment.

Protections from misleading conduct are clearly set out under 18(1) of Australian Consumer Law: "A person must not, in trade or commerce, engage in conduct that is misleading or deceptive or is likely to mislead or deceive."  Falsely claiming that a disbursement has been incurred and seeking payment from an Australian consignee will be misleading.

For more information please revisit Hunt & Hunt’s CPD presentation Australian Consumer Law - customs brokers & freight forwarders Stream B - 4 CPD points - FTA03.

Investigations of Misleading and Deceptive Conduct are routinely investigated by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) but offending companies may also be subject to civil claims where loss has been suffered.

FTA/APSA members can access further advice on this by contacting rwiese@huntvic.com.au or lgrant@huntvic.com.au

Update from Port Authority of New South Wales – Sydney

Dear Clients,

Please see below received from the DP WORLD Australia team.

Notice of Industrial Action: Friday 27 October 2017

The following was issued by the Port Authority of New South Wales today:

Port Authority of New South Wales has been negotiating with the Australian Maritime Officers Union (AMOU) and Maritime Union of Australia (MUA) over a replacement Enterprise Agreement for its Sydney workforce since February 2017.

Unfortunately these negotiations continue to remain difficult to finalise as the unions are maintaining a position which seeks employment guarantees that Port Authority is unable to provide.

Port Authority of New South Wales wishes to advise that it has now received notification of protected industrial action to be undertaken by MUA members working on board pilot cutters operated by the Port Authority from Port Jackson and Port Botany as follows:

  • 24 hour stoppage commencing at 0600 Friday 27th October 2017.

The action proposed will suspend the use of the pilot vessels to embark and disembark Pilots in Port Jackson and Port Botany. The MUA have agreed to exempt the following functions from any industrial action:

  • Watch keeping at sea;
  • Fire Rounds;
  • Port security watches;
  • Safety drills;
  • Product tanker and crude oil tanker vessels;
  • Passenger cruise vessels;
  • All dealings with emergency equipment in any manner; and
  • Any and all safety and emergency related issues.

Please be advised that this industrial action does not exempt perishables and therefore the movement of container vessels scheduled during this period will be affected.

Emergency response, Vessel Traffic Services and other Port Officer functions (other than pilot cutter movements) will be required to continue as normal during this period of industrial action.

Port Authority of New South Wales remains committed to reaching agreement with its employees whilst minimising, wherever possible, the impacts on you and your business, and we will provide regular updates to inform you of further developments at the earliest possible opportunity.

If you have any questions regarding the action and its impacts please contact me on 0419 222 639.

Yours sincerely,

Philip Holliday
